Our very own Mark Howlett recently took part in the British Heart Foundation London to Brighton off road mountain biking event. He joined over 2000 riders, cycling 61 miles across technical terrain with superb views and conquered Europe’s biggest charity mountain bike event to help fund lifesaving research.
Here’s what Mark had to say…
My official time was 10hrs, 10 minutes, 42 seconds with it being some of the worst conditions I’ve tried to ride off road in. A storm struck the south coast, with a months’ worth of rain falling in three hours whilst the race was underway, causing the trails to become totally waterlogged. Lots of broken bikes and a few accidents unfortunately.
Apart from a few scrapes and bruises, I was pleased to report that I remained relatively intact. The bike will need some work as a mistimed drop on my part claimed the chain stay about 20 miles which made the remainder and the final hill even harder work than I bargained for!
Congratulations to Mark for completing this race in very wet, muddy and challenging conditions and raising a superb amount for the British Heart Foundation.
