Experience of working with lime mortars, pointing, and repairs would be beneficial.

Trainee Heritage Building Craftsman (for Bakers of Danbury Ltd)

We have two vacancies for Trainee Heritage Building Craftsman within our Church Works department.

This is a full time, permanent position with an 18 month internal training programme built around an onsite based NVQ and externally accredited in-house training modules, which will enable the trainees to become qualified and skilled Heritage Building Craftsmen with the chance to progress further.

The Trainees will carry out a variety of conservation and restoration projects on churches, cathedrals and ancient buildings and will cover all learning and assessments onsite.

The successful candidates are likely to already have some experience within the construction industry, have a passion for historic buildings and are looking to use their existing knowledge and skills to advance their career in the sector.

On successful completion of the training scheme the candidates will have a varied and valuable skill set and continue to work on many interesting and varied church projects with the prospect of subsequent training and internal promotion.

Site Supervisor / Working Supervisor (for Bakers of Danbury Ltd)

Due to an increasing workload, Bakers of Danbury are looking to recruit a directly employed Site Supervisor / Working Supervisor.

The successful candidate will ideally have a trade background, hold a current SSTS or SMSTS qualification, be experienced in working on historic and listed properties and have a full driving licence.

The role will include running small/medium sized projects and managing both directly employed trades persons and specialist subcontractors and working closely with project managers.

Insurance Repairs Project Manager (for Pickford Builders, Dunmow)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Insurance Repairs Project Managerto join our reputable and long-established local Building Company.

The role is with our busy insurance repairs department dealing with flood, subsidence, fire, impact and escape of water damage claims and covering throughout Essex and South Suffolk region. The candidate will need to demonstrate the ability to survey, assess and prepare schedules of repairs from initial site visit. Dealing with domestic and commercial properties the role will also involve overseeing of the management of the subsequent works. The right candidate will be given the opportunity to develop the role and to work with a number of insurance repair networks that our company is involved with.

As an Insurance Repairs Project Manager your duties will include:

  • Working with our insurance repair department to visit with policy holders and professionals to schedule and agree works to various scopes of building repairs. Typically £15k - £100k
  • Collate costing and values using NSR systems and other portals
  • Preparing valuations on current contracts including variations and final accounts
  • Negotiating and procuring sub-contract packages
  • Production of accurate monitoring and progress reports
  • Monitoring effective management of appointed subcontractors workmanship and Health & Safety
  • Managing policy holder expectations
  • Work in conjunction with office based coordinators in managing documents and information flow.

An ideal Insurance Repairs Project Manager will hold the following experience:

  • Must have or be studying towards a building related qualification
  • Must have a wide based knowledge of the building practices
  • Previous experience in a similar role an advantage.

Other qualities required of the successful individual:

  • The person should be a positive individual prepared to join our team of dedicated professionals
  • The candidate should be capable of working as part of a team but also function well on their own
  • They must have excellent communication skills
  • Must possess a current driving licence and own vehicle.

Due to the nature of the role in visiting various locations the work place would be shared between office location and work from home on occasions.

Working Site Supervisor (for Pickford Builders, Dunmow)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Working site Supervisor to join our reputable and long established local Building Company.

The role is with our busy contract works department dealing with traditional building works throughout Essex and South Suffolk region, working with domestic and commercial clients.

The candidate will need to demonstrate the ability to manage the works of direct trades operatives and sub-contractors, whilst being able to deal with carrying out practical tasks of work. The role will involve the management of the site works, supported by the office based team. The right candidate will be given the opportunity to develop the role, with training as necessary and to work with a number of work streams that our company is involved with.

As a Working site Supervisor your duties will include:

  • Site based, working with our own tradesmen and specialist subcontractors to work on and oversee the daily operations on projects. Typically ranging £20 - 250k and occasionally larger
  • To liaise with office team, clients and professionals to keep the information flow
  • To assist in preparing and then monitor sequence programmes
  • Ensure correct use of site Health & Safety procedures and to assist in preparing Health and safety documentation
  • Site documents records keeping
  • Coordinate site operations, including arranging delivery and storage of materials
  • Set standards and oversee quality of works
  • Monitoring effective management of appointed subcontractors and their workmanship
  • Work in conjunction with Pickford Builders Ltd to manage client expectations.

Ideally you will have the following:

  • Must have SMSTS
  • First aid qualification
  • Tradesman and must have a wide based knowledge of the building practices
  • Previous experience in a similar role an advantage.

    Our Specialist Insurance Repair Department are looking for subcontractors across all trades, to provide additional support within the following postcode areas: CB, IP, CO, CM, SS, RM, IG, ME, DA, CT and SG.

    Insurance repair works range from a full underpinning scheme, to repairing damage caused by vehicle impact, fire, flooding or an escape of water.

    Bakers of Danbury work closely with leading insurance companies, specialist loss adjusters and engineers to repair all types of insured risks to domestic, commercial and industrial premises, usually whilst still occupied.

    We understand it can be a difficult time when making an insurance claim, therefore it is important that our staff and sub-contractors are sympathetic and work closely with building owners and/or occupants to complete the repairs to a high standard, with minimal disruption and inconvenience.

    Experienced Bench Joiner (for Bakers of Danbury Ltd)

    We are looking to recruit a Bench Joiner to join our expanding Joinery division specialising in bespoke, ecclesiastical joinery. The successful applicant will have previous experience with woodworking machinery. They will have a strong background working as a Bench Joiner on windows, doors, stairs and fitted furniture whilst working independently from production drawings.

    Key Skills Required:

  • Able to manufacture high quality bespoke joinery products
  • Able to read and understand CAD and pdf drawings
  • Work from your own cutting lists taken directly off drawings
  • Experienced in operating & setting up of workshop machinery (eg. Planers, Thicknessers, Spindle Moulders and Cross-Cutting techniques)
  • Be hardworking with an eye for detail
  • Experienced in installing manufactured products individually and as part of a team
  • Observe Health and Safety rules and be observant of possible hazards in the work place
  • Ensure the workplace is kept clean and tidy

    Stonemason (for Collins and Curtis Masonry Ltd in Ipswich)

    An opportunity has arisen for a Stonemason within our sister company Collins and Curtis Masonry Ltd which is based in Ipswich.

    As a Stonemason you will be required to cut and shape stonework with a range of hand and power tools, working from templates and moulds, to give it a textured or polished finish (dressing), in accordance with design plans; you may also be involved in carving figures, lettering or pattern work.

    The role will be based at their production facility in Ipswich, Suffolk, but may also include visits to sites, along with site fixing for which training can be provided.

    The candidate would ideally have a minimum of 5 years’ post qualification experience; however, additional training can be provided to a candidate with the correct aptitude to work.

    The successful candidate should know/be able to:

    • Efficiently and effectively be able to work and dress natural stone.
    • Have good co-ordination and manual skills for cutting and shaping stone.
    • Follow and adhere to Health and Safety policy at all times.
    • Be able to work carefully and methodically.
    • Read drawings and plans.
    • Be accurate with dimensions.
    • Have an eye for detail to ensure quality control and high standards are met.
    • The ability to work as an individual or as part of a team.
    • Experience using Dimensional Saw beneficial but not essential.
