With over 145 years of experience, Bakers of Danbury is a leading building contractor based in Essex, specialising in the conservation, restoration and alteration of historic and listed buildings across the South East of England.
We work with commerical clients, private homeowners, architects, surveyors, dioceses and church organisations, heritage organisations and local authorities, delivering award-winning restoration on a wide wide range of heritage projects. We have long been associated with many of the region’s historic buildings, churches and ancient monuments.

Working on historic buildings requires specialist knowledge and experience. Our teams understand traditional construction methods, materials and how these should be used when conserving historic buildings.
We have a our in-house joinery workshop and directly employed stonemasons, joiners, bricklayers, plasterers and carpenters. When required, we work with specialist subcontractors who are approved onto our subcontractor list.
Many of our experienced team have been with Bakers of Danbury for more than twenty years, bringing knowledge and expererience in traditonal building methods. We are committed to passing on these skills through training, apprenticeships and hand-on experience through working alongside our established team.

Our Conservation Skills
We manage heritage projects of all sizes, from smaller repairs and alterations to large-scale conservation and restoration projects. Depending on the requirements of the building and the scope of works, our projects can involve a wide range of specialist skills, including:
