About the Contracts Manager Role
We are recruiting for a Contracts Manager to be based at our head office in Danbury, Essex. This is a key role in overseeing the delivery of specialist construction projects on churches, heritage buildings and listed properties. The successful candidate will manage multiple projects across the South East from tender stage through to completion. Responsibilities include tender preparation, scheduling, contract project management and subcontractor co-ordination ensuring high standards of conservation work practices throughout. Experience in heritage construction is preferred along with excellent project management skills.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Reporting directly to the Head of the Church Works Division & ultimately responsible to the Company Board of Directors, you will be expected to work under your own initiative and to tight deadlines.
- To prepare & submit tenders, quotations prepared from drawings, bills of quantities, schedules of works and site surveys as required, values ranging from £5,000 to £1 million.
- To obtain quotes from material suppliers and sub-contractors for subcontracted elements of the works.
- To be personally responsible for controlling and supervising all aspects of several contracts at any one time, from pre-contract stage through to final completion.
- Preparation of method statements, risk assessments, health and safety site plans, bar chart programmes and general compliance with safe working practices & company procedures.
- Liaison with client’s representatives & establishment of good working relationships.
- Ensure directly employed multi skilled labour are organised, fully productive and motivated on the projects.
- Solve problems as they arise and ensure quality control and high standards of workmanship.
- Ensure the smooth running of contract operations including the supervision of site managers, the protection of company assets/hired equipment, issue of safety equipment & recording thereof, overseeing regular inspection & monitoring, submission of statutory paperwork.
- Preparation of valuations/final accounts.
Qualifications and Experience
- The candidate will be possibly a graduate, HND or NVQ qualified in a relevant construction-related discipline.
- Solid experience in general heritage building repairs is essential.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be a key team player
- The ability to manage multiple projects and workload.
- To work unsupervised and within a small team environment.
- To be able to read and understand construction schedules, quantity surveying.
- Sound computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- A clean driving licence essential..
