St Michael’s & All Angels Church is in the parish church of Gidea Park, originally built in 1927 and consecrated by the Bishop of Chelmsford in May 1928.
Within the grounds of the church are three halls, of which the Main Hall is the largest and was severely damaged by a fire in 2022. Bakers of Danbury have undertaken the rebuild and restoration of the Main Hall.
Building Works Programme
The rebuild works comprised of the following:
Demolition of the hall roof and east and west elevation walls.
A new steel portal frame on new concrete strip foundations to support and carry the construction of the new ‘mansard’ roof.
Curved secondary steelwork to replicate the original internal domed features.
Construction of new cavity walls and insulation.
External rendering and painting.
A modernised internal fit-out, heating system and electricals.
The Outcome
The restoration will return the Main Hall to its full use providing an essential space for community activities and church events.
The project demonstrates the co-ordinated approach we manage between the project team including the structural engineers, architect, steel fabricators and site operatives.
