About the Yard Manager Role
We are recruiting for a full time Stores/Yard Manager for our award-winning building firm in Danbury Essex. This is a full-time permanent role based at our head office and is a key role in supporting the smooth running of our construction activities across Essex and surrounding areas.
The ideal candidate will bring practical experience, strong organisation skills and a hands-on approach to support the efficient management of our yard, stores and transport operations.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Overseeing the running of the yard, storage areas, material stores, car park and transport.
- Ensure all areas are safe, tidy and operating effectively including taking responsibility for deliveries, skips and daytime security.
- Maintain plant records and database and assist in the purchasing of new plant and managing insurance claims for stolen plant.
- Manage the booking in and out of company-owned plant, including checking for damage and arranging any cleaning or repairs and subsequent costing of those repairs.
- Assist in economically sourcing materials and plant for live contracts.
- Manage stock levels and the booking out and costing of items including purchasing directly and economically from suppliers.
- Assist in managing the company vehicle fleet and HGV’s, maintaining a vehicle and co-ordinating required maintenance including liaison with vehicle drivers and garages.
- Maintain an overview of the companies Operators License and compliance.
- Arrange for various testing and inspections to be carried out on buildings, plant and equipment and coordinating with external bodies as is necessary.
- Management of the lorry driver’s diary and schedule.
- Have an overview on the production of and compliance with company policies relevant to the roles to be carried out and assist in updating as necessary.
- Provide support as required to Contract Managers and their teams to support the efficient running of on-site works.
- Assist in the day to day maintenance of the Bakers of Danbury offices.
- Carry out other duties as necessary to ensure the smooth running of the stores, transport and yard operations.
Qualifications and Experience
- Have a working knowledge of the construction industry and materials.
- Be proficient in Microsoft Office, Outlook and simple spreadsheet-based data bases – training can be given.
- Be organised and with good attention to detail.
- Be active and physically fit and able to assist in unloading and moving of materials and minor plant.
- Have a positive but realistic can-do and helpful approach.
- Have the ability to communicate well with tradesmen, managers and suppliers.
