Bakers of Danbury – Winners of the 2026 Daniel Connal Sandcastle Competition
Joyful Winners of the Daniel Connal Sandcastle Competiton 2026
Bakers of Danbury was delighted to take part in the recent Daniel Connal Sandcastle Competition on Frinton beach – and even more delighted to come away as this year’s winners.
The theme for the competition was a key event from the last 80 years, with the challenge to recreate their chosen moment in sand.
World Cup inspired - Paul the Octopus
The Bakers team opted for Paul the Octopus, who became an unlikely star of the 2010 World Cup after successfully predicting the results of a number of matches. Our sand sculpture recreated one of Paul’s famous predictions, complete with a tentacle placed firmly on the England flag.
It was a great day on Frinton beach and a chance for the team to put their construction skills to a rather different use. We were thrilled to have our efforts recognised and to be crowned winners on the day.
A big thank you to Daniel Connal Partnership for organising another enjoyable event and well done to everyone who took part.
