Colchester Film Makers go behind-the-scenes at Holy Trinity Church

We were delighted to welcome the Colchester Film Makers to our Holy Trinity Church site in Colchester for a day of filming, capturing behind-the-scenes footage of the specialist restoration work taking place. The crew recorded key stages of the lead and roof works, showcasing the traditional techniques and craftsmanship involved.

The finished film is planned to be shown in the Colchester Town Hall.

Historical Background

Holy Trinity Church is an Anglo-Saxon building dating back to around AD 1000, with its Saxon tower standing for nearly a thousand years. As Colchester’s oldest surviving building, it occupies a central city centre position. On the Heritage at Risk Register, its regeneration is part of a wider plan to revitalise Colchester and bring significant historic buildings back into active use.

The Roof Restoration Project

The programme involves the repair and conservation of the church roof with the works include  timber repairs, re-laying salvaged clay tiles, installing new lead coverings to improve drainage, and carrying out associated stone and timber repairs. As with all our projects we ensure the correct approach and protection measures are used to safeguard the building’s historic fabric.
