The project involved external works to a 15th-century Grade II listed property and the application of traditional lime render. The property’s upper level render panels, some of which were cement render, were starting to lift away from the timber frame. There was no insulation under the panels. Decorative brickwork and timber beams required repair and redecoration.
The Conservation Works:
The deteriorating cement render panels were removed and replaced with breathable lime render panels on timber laths.
Sheep’s wool insulation was installed under the new laths to improve thermal performance.
Rotten mock tudor timber beams were replaced.
Brickwork was repointed using a lime based mortar to match the existing.
External decoration was carried out using a breathable mineral painting system (Keim).
The patterns in the existing panels were replicated in the final coat of render using render stamps.
