Bakers of Danbury were appointed to carry out the conservation, cleaning and repair works to the Billericay War Memorial. The work programme involved the cleaning of the Portland stone, coping stone repairs and lime mortar repointing. All works were carried out in consultation with the local authority.

Repairs to the coping stones which were damaged due to weathering
Stone repairs and replacement carrying out like for like replacement using Portland stone and carrying out smaller indent repairs as necessary.
Repointing of open joints with lime mortar and minor repairs to the WWII plaque wall.
About the Memorial
The memorial was unveiled on 16 October 1921 and bears the names of 62 local men who died in the First World War. A later addition in 1957 commemorates a further 54 individuals who fell in the Second World War, recorded on a plaque set into a red brick wall behind the main monument.
