Waytemore Castle is in Bishop’s Stortford in Hertfordshire. It dates to the 11th Century. It is a Scheduled Ancient Monument, and the remains are Grade 1 listed.
The project involved the installation of Cintec Anchors and wall stabilisation to provide a secure access system for groundskeepers and conservation teams to attach harnesses and give safe working conditions when carrying out maintenance work on the sloping motte.
The works required structural reinforcement of the ancient walls and installing a series of ring anchors into the historic masonry rubble core walls to which the harnesses could be clipped on to.
Key Works
The flint walls were cleared and excavated to remove debris and loose materials, exposing the rubble core.
Cintec RWT Anchors with standard welded projecting studs were installed to a recommended embedment depth of 500mm within 60mm diameter holes. The anchor locations were confirmed through CAT scanning and architect verification.
The masonry was reinforced. Mortar samples were tested and approved to confirm suitability with the historic structure.
The Latchways HD D-Ring SPA system was securely anchored into the Cintec Anchors and pull ring devices were integrated to allow for the harness attachments. Load tests were conducted on the installed anchors.
