Bakers of Danbury were appointed as the principal contractors for the design and build of a new teaching block at a school in Essex.
This included 3 classrooms, staff room, teaching areas, hygiene area, rest room and storage.
As part of the Castledon School on-going estate management and curriculum improvements, the school secured Condition Improvement Funding (CIF) for the design and construction of a new teaching block, together with hard and soft landscaping and drainage.
The Project
As principal contractors, Bakers of Danbury commenced works in February 2021. The location of the new permanent teaching facility was on an underdeveloped area within the school grounds adjacent to the school car park
The finished construction is of traditional masonry walls with aluminium windows and a timber deck flat roof finished with a single ply system. The heating system is powered by an air source heat pump.
One of the difficulties encountered during the project was the need to adhere to COVID-19 guidelines given that the work coincided with the Coronavirus pandemic. Another challenge overcome was keeping the school’s car park operational whilst also accommodating the need for the construction traffic to pass through to site as there were no other viable alternative routes available.
